Blog to Success
Hopefully, you’ve already read Parts 1 and 2 of my short series on what the gurus forgot to tell you about starting a blog.

This post is a continuation of important things you should know as a new blogger. If you haven’t read the previous posts, you can find them at the links below:

What They Forgot to Tell You About Blogging – Part 1
More Blogging Tips That The Gurus Forgot to Tell You – Part 2

We often visit the most popular blogs, purchase e-books and buy courses to learn all that we think we’re supposed to know about starting a blog. Sadly, we’re usually still left with a ton of unanswered questions, so let’s continue talking about what the Guru’s never tell us.

Large Numbers on Your Blog Don’t Equal Large Pay Days!

One line we’re fed is that when we find a blog that has tens of thousands of followers on Twitter or gets hundreds of RSS counts, the blogger is probably making a lot of money. Don’t be fooled by the numbers.

I spoke more on this subject in the previous post on this topic, so be sure to read them. What you should know is this.  A blog is successful when it gets a ton of conversions as a result of the interaction that takes place within that blog community.

The reason you can’t judge the success of a blog based on numbers is because certain niches will have smaller numbers than others. All markets (or niches) are not crated equal. Some are large, some are small, but it doesn’t mean that the blog within the smaller niche is making less money because it has fewer followers.

Let me explain. You could be in a niche that gives you a high number of followers. But keep in mind, the competition within that niche matters a lot. What percentage of followers are you getting in that super huge niche?

Now… take a less good niche that has a smaller group of people interested in the topic. Did you know that you could actually make more money in the smaller niche if you get the higher percentage of ‘real followers’… who could end up being your clients and customers!

Want to know what a successful blog looks like?

It all boils down to how loyal and passionate the community of a blog is. So my advise to you is this… While you’re looking to build large numbers, don’t ignore the work that goes into creating a solid community base, as well.

Don’t get me wrong here. You still need to get back links and do good SEO because you need the search engine results, but here’s a reality that the Guru’s don’t tell you. You’re much better off with just 100 people who actually respond to you and your blog, share and promote your content and interact rather than 10,000 who do nothing. Focus on creating an impact with one real person at a time and watch the popularity of your blog start to grow with real followers in just a few months time.

Whatever Amount of Money You Invested Into Getting Your Blog Up and Running is the Least Investment You’ll Ever Make.

What does this mean? We all know that you could spend a little cash on things like blog themes, hosting, domain name and auto-responder. And when a blogger starts to move into higher levels of blogging, you’re looking at costs for things like software, design work, coding, tools and more. Everybody tends to talk about those things but what’s not talked about so much is your main investment… time.

Everybody is given the same amount of time and as you blog, you should put a monetary value on the time you spend. There are things that you can do and there are things that you can outsource.

Since this blog is written mostly for those who are just starting to blog, I won’t go into outsourcing just yet. So considering that you’re doing everything yourself for now, make sure that your time is well spent.

My point: You can spend time surfing other blogs or you can spend time interacting with your readers to develop your relationships. One wrong action can cause you to lose money while another could end up making you thousands of dollars over time. So, don’t spend more time with the stuff that doesn’t pay, than you do on activities that will help build your community and brand and actually help you make money.

As mentioned at the start, there are so many things that happen in the real world of blogging that you may not have thought about. Always take these tips into consideration as you continue building your brand online.
